Cardiac Rehabilitation
The primary goal of the cardiac rehabilitation program at Metropolitan Heart and Vascular Institute, like a heart clinic, is to restore patients to healthy, active living after they have suffered a cardiac event, such as a heart attack or heart failure hospitalization. Cardiac rehabilitation is a carefully planned program which is individually tailored to help people with heart disease enjoy better health through education, counseling, and exercise training.
Our programs, certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), are comprised of dedicated staff that will guide patients through their rehabilitation process. The rehabilitation teams at Mercy, Unity, and Buffalo Hospitals are multi-disciplinary, and usually include participation by:
- Physicians and clinic nurses
- Cardiac rehabilitation occupational therapists
- Exercise physiologists
- Cardiac rehabilitation nurses
- Consulting pharmacists
- Chaplains
- Social workers
- Clinical dietitians
With a referral by a physician, a patient may enter the program at any phase.
